I am an artist/illustrator and although I am comfortable with traditional media I primarily focus on digital illustration in my home studio, based in the West Midlands, UK. I have drawn and painted since I was old enough to hold a pencil and love to tell stories with my art. After spending the last few years raising my family and working in 3D modelling, I have decided that it's time to concentrate on a return to 2D work.

My name is Beth Hancock and I am a (mostly) self-taught illustrator from a working-class background based in Dudley, West Midlands.
Many years ago I got lots of GCSE's including Art, then went on to achieve an Art A-Level after which I spent a year working on Art & Design foundation studies at Stourbridge College for which I earned a Distinction. I was then accepted to study animation and film at the prestigious Arts Institute of Bournemouth. After some time of study I decided that I was better suited to illustration than film but after some serious upheaval found myself building a family and raising children instead of graduating.
I continued to draw and pursue a creative life despite being dealt some difficult hands. My art education thus far had been wholly traditional. However, as soon as the opportunity was given to me I became an early adopter of digital media, I taught myself 3D modelling, 2D digital painting and vector illustration. More recently I have been engaged in the creation of physical objects that I have modelled using 3D printing that culminated in a newcomers award at the London Dollshouse Festival in 2024.
At 44 years, I believe that my life experiences have enhanced my work. I reckon I have about 30 years of career left ahead of me and I truly love that this time is to be spent illustrating and sharing my imagination.
Today, I concentrate on making digital art but I enjoy creating a hand drawn feel to my pieces. I use no AI in my processes and vastly prefer to use my own mark making over any stabilisation that modern software can offer me. I embrace mistakes rather than avoid them because I am only human, and I am brave.
